Reservoir questions
August 21, 2008
What is the justification for continuing the plans for the King William Reservoir?
We've spent all this money already, so we have to go ahead to not lose what we've spent, even though water will cost us more if there isn't a large population growth or increasing water usage to absorb those costs.
Build it because Newport News wants to be in the business of selling water to other localities. Does revenue from water sales boost city income to decrease our real estate taxes? We do need to keep in mind that the city is selling less water according to recently released reports ("Report: Water usage steady," Aug. 8).
We do want the King William Reservoir, our own version of Lake Gaston, for recreation.
If so who benefits from land sales and development there? Do we, the people of Newport News, want to foot the bill for a resort that is not in Newport News?
